I have to admit that I went into this novel thinking “another post-apocalyptic novel”. And don’t get me wrong I enjoy them, but this novel was a little different and carried many different factors and stories.
You start with the story of the Clark Clan living in a post-apocalyptic world created by the fall of banks bringing in the main characters Deeta and Tom. Eventually information that Tom hid from the clan brings devastation to their door steps and here we go!
While I loved most of the Characters in this novel I most fell in love with Deeta. Imagine being born and raised in a building and never being allowed outside. That is where the story starts for Deeta. I am amazed by this character who is raised to be “weak” in the outside world to prevent her from being harmed by its toxic nature. However when her world is rocked and she is thrown into the clutches of the outside world just the same she manages to rise to the occasion and holds more strength than anyone would have thought. I loved that she was able to grow and adapt through this rough environment, and still maintain her personality and caring nature.
This story takes you on an adventure through a broken down city bringing love, loss and war. I was excited by each and every page of this novel. I was amazed at the depth of the story and the author’s ability to put you into the moment. While the ending allows for this to be a standalone novel I am really excited that there is another novel making this a series that I am going to be stuck on !!!!!!
