REVIEW
Down to youby Addison Kline
Down to you is a story was not what I was expecting. It was a great book about love, endurance, and most of all: trust. Not the typical “I love you” and all is romance or the story of an affair and the crisis about that. No, it is a story that helps us remember what family means.
I loved the flashbacks to the past, it was a different way of knowing the characters stories and a unique way to get to know the reasons of the plot itself. Brant and Holly’s story is about marriage, family and how to get going when things get tough and hard to deal with. From the flashbacks you get to learn how they met, and got married, how they used to spendChristmasand why they’re not together in present time. It was a realistic and at the same time a hopeful story just right for Christmas time. It talks about the importance of family and friends in every bit of your life. How they are the support lifeline you need in moments of weakness and when you really don’t know how to keep on living after a crisis.
In this case a miscarriage and a divorce is the crisis. But the result of all the comings and goings of this story it’s a happy although difficult ending and I really liked reading every moment of it. Brant and Holly’s love is true and you can feel it in the way they love their children, and their short but true talks to each other. Here is one line of the book that says it all:
“Here is all I have to give. Everything in my life comes down to you. “
And it also gets the title of the book just right with the meaning of the story, don’t you think? Anyway, my favorite character throughout the book was Marv, Holly’s dad. I just couldn’t help but smile every time he said something or did a remark on something. Just like in the book: a crazy but too likable old man. On the other hand, Holly’s best friend Sloane is like your all the time fashion lover, talkative and loyal friend that is always there to support you in every possible way.
It was a nice mix of personalities that get the story going and never letting it become boring or lacking spark. It was what I like to call a nice afternoon reading with all the ingredients to make you laugh, cry, and want to keep reading on the right amount.
